Vitamin H is essential for the proper function of many enzymes involved in the metabolism of fats and, carbohydrates.
The best sources are yeast. liver, kidney, egg yolk. soya beans and rice bran. Biotin is also manufactured by bacteria in the gut. Deficiency of biotin is only likely during pro' longed intravenous feeding or consumption of excessive quantities of raw egg white. which can. tains a substance (destroyed by cooking) that binds with biotin and inactivates it. Symptoms of deficiency include inflammation of the skin and lining membranes, depression, abnormal skin sensations, muscle pains and hair loss. No ill effects have been reported from excess.
